Did you know that UPS trucks never turn left (in the USA)? That’s crazy I hear you cry. That’s bonkers surely? How do they ever get there? Their satnav chooses routes that never require the trucks to turn across traffic. They’ve worked out that the time spent turning right (or left in the UK, Japan, RSA, Australia, and NZ) and going round in a big circles completely negates the time they would otherwise spend waiting for traffic lights or cars to let them pull across the road. Clever huh?
What on earth has this got to do with you? Good question, I’m glad you asked. It’s a handy metaphor for life. Someone once said “Sometimes the quickest way through is around.” When I say someone actually I think it’s me poorly paraphrasing Robert Frost – sorry Robert. What that means is there are no rules. The shortest way isn’t necessarily the way.
Fight smarter not harder and don’t adhere to limitations that do not exist. What are the left (or right) turns in your life? The things that you’re waiting for, other people or things to align to allow you to make progress. Go around them. It might seem longer but you know where you’re going and you’ll get there. If you wait for the right time, you could be waiting forever.
